Ankeny was named after its founder, John Ankeny who founded the city in 1875. In the early twentieth century, coal mining became a stronghold in the area. The Enterprise Coal Company, which operated less than four miles from downtown Ankeny, produced over 100,000 tons of coal in 1914. In 1940 the population of the town was less than 800. However, after World War II the population began to increase rapidly and today is home to over 25,000 residents.

SCPD: "Missing Iowa woman may be on her way to Sioux City" - KTIV News 4 Sioux City IA: News, Weather and Sports The Sioux City Police Department posted on its Facebook account that missing Iowa woman, 20-year-old Shyann Marie Grover, may be on her way to Sioux City. SCPD said they were made aware by the Ankeny, IA police department that Grover may be seeking transportation to Sioux City.

According to police, Shyann is described as a white female, 5', 160 pounds, with brown hair, green eyes and a mild speech impediment. She was last seen in the area of DMACC, 2006 S Ankeny Blvd, at about 7 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2018.

Police: Woman tells officers she stabbed Boone man to death

Boone Police Officers were called to the Boone County Law Enforcement Center Tuesday evening. There, Officers met with Mary Myers, who told officers that she had stabbed Joe Wirth, age 65 of Boone, during a physical altercation inside their shared residence at 315 State St. Myers, 59, of Boone, was charged with first-degree murder and was taken into custody in the Boone County Jail.

A 32-year-old man has been imprisoned for being drunk when his pickup truck rammed into a semitrailer on Interstate 80 in Polk County, killing his passenger. The sentence of 15 years was handed down Friday in a Des Moines courtroom to Michael Wright, of Ankeny.

Phillips County accident kills 1, injures 3

Jolene Wennekamp Nikl, 61, Ankeny, Iowa, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred on U.S. Highway 183 eastbound near mile marker 234, 7 miles south of Alma, Neb.
