Cedar Falls is located in northeastern Iowa. The city was founded in 1845 by William Sturgis and was originally called Sturgis Falls in honor of the first family to settle in the area. However, when the family moved a few years later, the city was renamed Cedar Falls after the nearby Cedar River. Because of its proximity to the river and therefore its availability of water power, Cedar Falls quickly developed into a milling and industrial center.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Friends of Faith Retirement Homes Inc. announced it'll invest in reconstructing its independent living apartments and skilled nursing center. The senior housing nonprofit opened Waterloo's Friendship Village in 1968.

An Iowa man who was convicted nearly 20 years ago of threatening then-President Bill Clinton has been charged with attempted murder after officials say he tried to kill a fellow mental health center patient.
