About: coon rapids, minnesota

Coon Rapids is located in eastern Minnesota and is considered to be a northern suburb of Minneapolis. The city was named in reference to the abundance of raccoons that were frequently found in the former rapids of Coon Creek. The city's logo was initially an image of a raccoon, named Rocky Raccoon, but in 2002 was changed to an image of an oak leaf. Citizens did not care for this change, and in a response to overwhelming public pressure, the logo was changed back to a raccoon in 2007, though it is more realistic and less stylized.
