11:50 a.m. - Fairfield Wastewater Treatment Plant reported a person was entering a confined space. According to the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Center, the center is alerted when a person is entering a confined space in the event that an emergency occurs.

Brighton man runs for House District 84

The seat is currently occupied by Republican Dave Heaton of Mt. Pleasant, but Heaton announced earlier this year that he will not seek re-election.

Fairfield student wins writing award

The Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa has announced Fairfield High School student Emma Carlson is a regional award recipient of the 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Presented by the nonprofit organization, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the country's longest running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7-12.

North Campus Village continues growth

This aerial map shows the next planned expansion of North Campus Village, Phase 6, west of the expansion under construction and now mostly completed, Phase 5. When Phase 6 is complete, North Campus Village will have 180 units. The housing development, a joint venture between DRB Contracting Inc. and Vastu Partners LLC, began in 2002, will add 55 units during the next three years in what will be Phase 6 of North Campus Village.

Squares Around the Square' theme for outdoor art display

This will be the 10th year the FAA has invited artists and fine craftsmen to participate in creating entries to be displayed throughout the summer in the garden nodes in downtown Fairfield. The first year were "Mannequins" on their small aluminum poles, the next year the FAA invested in heavy duty metal poles with removable bases on top and 24 concrete underground bollards.

5K returns to Fairfield

The Live Healthy Iowa 5K will return April 14 to the same 19 communities that participated in 2017, including Fairfield for a third consecutive year. The event will partner with communities across Iowa to host Live Healthy Iowa 5K events featuring a 5K run/walk and a 1K kid's run with proceeds from the events benefitting the local wellness coalitions in partner communities, as well as Live Healthy Iowa Kids initiatives.

Garrison, Jones wedding set Oct. 13

Art and Chris Garrison, of Fairfield, announce the engagement of their daughter, Danielle Garrison, to Noah Jones, son of Todd and Julie Jones, of Davenport. The bride-to-be is a 2013 Fairfield High School graduate and a 2017 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in animal science.

Hunter Education class set

A free Hunter Education class is set from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24 at the Southeast Iowa Skeet Club northeast of Fairfield. Anyone 11 years old or older can enroll in the class.

President of Creative Edge Master Shop Jim Belilove shows the tool kits his company has been building lately. The firm's Tool Keepers division has grown in recent years and will grow even more now that Creative Edge has secured a $110,000 low-interest loan.

Providing the evening meal of March 4 at the home of Winifred Fritz were her grandson J.D. Hollingsworth, of Packwood; and her children, Mary and Joel Boatright, and Greg and Deb Fritz, all of Fairfield, and Tony and Lynn Fritz.

City plans West Tyler extension

The map above shows the planned extension of West Tyler Avenue south of TrafFix Devices, which built a 68,000-square-foot expansion last year. The extension will make it easier for the company to get its semis in and out, and will accommodate future developments on the west side of town.

A Lunch and Learn for BizTraining, "Essence of Successful Selling with Ben Picard," is set from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office. Picard is a marketing executive, with advanced degrees from Yale and Duke, plus a series of three startup exits in Silicon Valley.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., a robbery in progress was reported at Everybody's according to a news release from the Jefferson County Attorney. The reporting party stated that an adult male wearing a long sleeve green T-shirt, red pants and military style cap held a knife to an employee and demanded money.
