Only a portion of it will be developed at this time. The landfill has multiple areas which can still be developed to hold garbage, keeping it operational on the current land for many years.

River plans a focal point in D.C.

Future plans for the Des Moines River corridor in Fort Dodge were a frequent topic of discussion in Washington, D.C., Thursday as local leaders spent a second day lobbying in the nation's capital. Sheriff: Suspect in high-speed chase was reclined, parked on Highway 9

MITCHELL COUNTY, Iowa A man reclined in a stolen truck parked on the roadway of Highway 9 led authorities on a six-mile pursuit in Mitchell County that hit 98 mph. Benjamin Foster, 36, of Fort Dodge, has been charged with second-degree theft and a host of other crimes after officers found him in a Ford F-150 parked in the roadway at the intersection of Highway 9 and Dancer Avenue at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Junk pickup to end in FD, but will be replaced

The days of piling junk on the curb for the annual spring cleanup day collections have come to an end in Fort Dodge. Instead, residents will be able to bring junk to the landfill on the last two Saturdays of April and the first two Saturdays in May. City Manager David Fierke said the new plan, which he introduced Monday, will free up city workers to do more street maintenance while at the same time allowing residents to get rid of even more junk.

Busy construction season planned in FD

The City Council on Monday set much of that work in motion by awarding contracts for street paving and sewer work. Under another street work contract awarded Monday, Castor Construction, of Fort Dodge, will perform concrete patch repairs on Kenyon Road and Fifth Avenue South.

Woman who fell from pickup fatally struck by car

Webster County authorities say a woman who fell from a pickup truck died after being struck by a car following the pickup. Deputies and medics were sent around 8:45 p.m. Friday to the scene just north of Fort Dodge on U.S. Highway 169.

Two students from the Fort Dodge region have earned honor roll distinction at the University of Kansas. More than 5,700 undergraduate students were named to the honor roll for the fall 2017 semester.

Casting coins class to be held Saturday

The Blanden Memorial Art Museum will hold a casting coins class from 10 a.m. to noon for children 6-9 years old, and from 1 to 3 p.m. for children 10-14 years old, on Saturday at the museum, 920 Third Ave. S. King Band will perform March 18

The second in a series of three indoor concerts by the Karl L. King Municipal Band of Fort Dodge will be held on March 18 in the Decker Auditorium on the campus of Iowa Central Community College.
