Henderson, not to be confused with Hendersonville, is located in the northern piedmont region of North Carolina. It is the birthplace of both Ben E. King (singer and co-composer of "Stand by Me") and Charlie Rose (60 Minutes correspondent, PBS talk show host). The city of Henderson was named in honor of former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Leonard Henderson. Second co-defendant testifies in murder trial

The trial for the woman accused of murdering a Henderson man in December of 2015 got underway Tuesday in Vance County. Chelsea Collier, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Marcus Fields, 36, who was found dead Feb. 13, 2016, in a makeshift grave in a wooded area north of Henderson.

Two charged with murder in connection with missing Henderson mans' death

Michael Bowes, 46, of Henderson, was found dead inside of his car at about 1 p.m. Sunday on a private farm on Washout Road, Sheriff Peter White said in a press release. He was reported missing on Dec. 21. Jefferson and Mayfield were both being held in the Vance County Jail without bond.

Two charged with murder of missing local man

Sheriff Peter White announced the body of Michael Bowes, 46, of 650 Gun Club Road, Lot 6, Henderson, was located on Saturday. Bowes was found deceased inside of his vehicle at approximately 1 p.m. on Washout Road, a private farm path off of Weldons Mill Road in the eastern corner of Vance County, by a resident that lived nearby.

A Henderson man was arrested Thursday in the alleged rape of a juvenile, according to a news release from the Henderson Police Department on Friday. Wilton Leroy Greene, 48, of 1021 Thurston St., Henderson, was charged Jan. 4 with first-degree forcible rape and first-degree rape of a juvenile less than 13-years-old.
