Third wastewater spill since Jan. 4

Hinesville announced Tuesday that its Water Pollution Control Plant located on Ft. Stewart experienced a release of 7.62 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into Taylors Creek as a result of equipment failure Wednesday.

GBI Investigates death in Richmond Hill

Officers from the Richmond Hill Police Department were dispatched to Plantation Apartments, at 201 Casey Drive in Richmond Hill regarding gunshots fired at approximately 3:30 a.m. Jan. 14. Upon arrival officers found Breona Watkins suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS responded and transported her to St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah where she died from her injuries.

Hinesville announced Friday that its sewage plant on Fort Stewart released 5.47 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into Taylors Creek after an equipment failure. The release said, "Operations staff discovered the wastewater release and acted quickly to resolve the malfunction.
