Located on the south bank of the Missouri River, near the western edge of the state, Independence was originally inhabited by Missouri and Osage Indians, followed by the Spanish and a brief French tenure. Dennis A. Shinderuk, 21, of Green Ridge, was northbound on Route 127, just south of Route Y, when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet roadway, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. His vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Independence Man Arrested For Promoting Child Pornography

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control announces the arrest of Bradley E. Vader, 64, of Independence, Missouri, on January 9, 2018, for promoting and possession of child pornography. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Division of Drug and Crime Control's Digital Forensics Investigative Unit.

Jan. 12 Crash Reports

A Sweet Springs man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in Pettis County. David C. Graham, 44, was northbound on Route FF past Northeast 310th Road when he traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Merna J. Scarborough, 62, of Lexington, attempted a left turn at Route AA and Northwest 370th Road when she pulled into the southbound path of Mary J. Cotter, 61, of Kingsville, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. Cotter struck Scarborough's vehicle and traveled off the west side of the roadway where she hit a fence and stopped in a field.

Fire crews responded to the area of Pritcher Rd. and Blue Ridge Cutoff around 6:40 p.m. on a reported structure fire. They were able to get the fire under control by 7:07 p.m. The City of Independence tweeted about the incident and said a 'civilian casualty' was later found at the scene of the fire.
