Jacksonville is the birthplace of singer Ryan Adams, country singer Danielle Peck, and singer Sara Hickman. It is located only 25 minutes from Wilmington, North Carolina in the southern Inner Banks Region. In 1842 the city was incorporated and renamed from Johnston to Jacksonville in memory of President Andrew Jackson. The Marine Corps Base of Camp Lejeune is located nearby.
