Originally home to the Cherokee Native American tribe Kingsport grew out of the staging ground for the Wilderness Road the Kentucky. The area soon grew into an important shipping port on the Holston River. Today the Eastman Chemical company headquarters is located in Kingston. Tennessee lawmakers to DUI offenders: No alcohol sales to you

A bill that would allow judges to prohibit those convicted of driving under the influence from purchasing alcohol advanced in the House on Wednesday. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Bud Hulsey, R-Kingsport, and Sen. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, originally sought a lifetime ban for a third conviction and discretion for judges to prohibit the purchase of alcohol by first- and second-time offenders for one and two years, respectively.

Civil War Round Table To Host Gordon Rhea

The Tri-Cities Civil War Round Table will hear from Civil War speaker, author and preservationist Gordon Rhea at their upcoming program. The event, "The Battle of Cold Harbor," will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at the Renaissance Center, Room 310.

Daylight Savings Time

A state legislator has failed in his attempt to make Tennessee one of what would have been one of four states to adopt a law that would have saved Tennesseans the hassle of setting and resetting their clocks twice a year. On Thursday, the Florida Legislature sent a bill to Gov. Rick Scott that would put the Sunshine State in a state of perpetual sunshine putting their clocks on a permanent schedule of Daylight Saving Time, should Congress decide to give the state an exemption on current federal laws."

Kingsport Police Department Detectives are asking for any additional witnesses to the March 2, 2018, homicide inside the Hog Wild Saloon, who have not yet spoken to law enforcement officials, to please come forward. The Hog Wild Saloon was packed with numerous patrons at the time of the incident, and many of these individuals could not have helped but to see the shooting that transpired in the main room of this establishment.

John C. Smith, 40, of Windsor Forest Drive, Kingsport, was charged Monday by sheriff's deputies with theft/shoplifting and other offenses following an incident at the Davy Crockett TA Travel Center on Van Hill Drive in Baileyton. Smith allegedly took a headlight bulb from the store and was still outside working on his truck when sheriff's deputies arrived, Deputy Joseph McNulty said in a report.
