Nampa's name translates from Shoshone to either moccasin or footprint. Colonel William H. Dewey built the elegant Dewey Palace Hotel in 1902 for $250,000. The hotel survived the great fire of 1909, but was demolished in 1963 because there was no interest in investing to renovate the grand structure. Remnants from the hotel, such as the chandelier and the hotel safe, are at the Canyon County Historical Museum.

The Nampa Police Department fired an officer charged with filing a false report to get prescription medication. Department officials say in a release Monday that Jarad Webb was fired after being charged with one felony count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deception, and one misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

Authorities in southwestern Idaho have identified a woman stabbed to death and a man shot and killed when police responded to a domestic dispute in Nampa. Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue says two Nampa police officers entered the house and, based on body camera footage, one of the officers fatally shot 29-yer-old Evan C. Bashir.
