Authorities say a man who fired shots at police is dead after seven officers returned fire in an incident near the Puyallup Recreation Center. The News Tribune reports police were dispatched to the area at 4 p.m. Friday on a report of a man acting erratically.

A deputy opened fire at a suspect in a stolen car who tried to ram the deputy's patrol vehicle during a wild early morning pursuit south of Puyallup, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office reports. The driver of the stolen car was not hit by the gunfire and was taken into custody at the scene, along with his female passenger.

More Washington students could get a meal in expanded breakfast-after-the-bell program

More Washington students would have access to a morning meal under legislation that overwhelmingly passed the state House on Wednesday. House bill 1508 would require schools with at least 70 percent of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals to move breakfast from before school to after the morning bell to ensure every student can get a nutritious snack at the start of the day.

Detectives seeking witnesses to wrong way serious injury collision

At approximately 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018, the Washington State Patrol responded to a report of a multiple vehicle serious injury collision WB SR 18 near SR 164 in Auburn. Once troopers arrived at the scene it was determined that a 2001 Subaru was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR 18, ultimately striking three other vehicles, the last of which was a 2006 Acura where the driver sustained substantial injuries.
