The city of Temple, Texas is located in central Texas, 65 miles north of Austin and 34 miles south of Waco. The city has been called the "Wildflower Capital of Texas." In 1881, Temple was founded as a railroad town and named after Bernard Moore Temple, a civil engineer and former surveyor with the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad Company that established the town. It was nicknamed by locals as "Tanglefoot" because the combination of muddy streets and liquor made walking a challenge for residents.

Authorities in Killeen are investigating a video that appears to show a Central Texas woman trying to perform a medical procedure on her dog at home. According to a Facebook post from the owner, the female dog ran off and came home with a large abscess on her neck.

A former police chief in Central Texas has been arrested on allegations that he forced a woman to have sex with him by warning that he would have her jailed if she didn't comply. Thirty-nine-year-old Quincy Deon Lee of Chilton was arrested Wednesday on a charge of sexual assault.

Affidavit: Murder suspect revved engine, ran over victims twice in Temple

The 60-year-old man arrested for a Temple hit-and-run crash that killed a mother and son allegedly revved his pickup truck engine and ran over the victims twice, according to an arrest affidavit released this week. Darrel Gene Holloway II surrendered himself at the Temple Police Department on March 2 after investigators believe he struck and killed Maria Marta Garza, 51, and Pedro Danny Garza, 33, near the intersection of South 1st Street and W. Avenue O just after 11 p.m. According to the newly released affidavit, a witness told investigators he saw Holloway's truck rev its engine and run over the victims, then back up and run into each of them a second time.

Police: Suspect mad over fight charged with shooting teen at park in Temple

A 20-year-old Temple man was arrested and charged Saturday for shooting a 15-year-old in Miller Park on Oct. 20, 2017. Detectives with the Temple Police Department had been investigating since then and recently obtained an arrest warrant for Darius Hellums, who was booked on a charge of aggravated assault -- bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

Police: Driver surrenders himself after Temple hit-and-run crash kills two

Around 11:07 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of 5th Street and Avenue O, where a 911 caller told dispatch that a maroon pickup truck sped away from the scene of a crash. When police arrived, they found a male and female dead on the ground.

A 33-year-old man was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple in stable condition Saturday morning after he was shot in Killeen. The Killeen Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Ronald Drive around 8:46 a.m. There, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.

DPS: Man shot by KPD officer had stolen an ambulance

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday that the suspect who was shot by a Killeen Police officer was accused of stealing an ambulance. The suspect was shot last Friday evening in the 2600 block of Cross Timber Drive in Killeen, where that same ambulance had been involved in a crash.
