Aug. 02--Residents of the west Denver suburbs will notice more trains on the tracks for RTD's yet-to-open G-line beginning Thursday as the transit district moves into the next phase of testing. The commuter rail line, which will provide service from downtown Denver to Arvada, Wheat Ridge and parts of Adams County, has now been federally approved to carry six trains for up to 10 hours a day, RTD said in a news release.

A woman and her adult son were killed early Friday morning in an Arvada house fire reported by a neighbor who smelled smoke but couldn't see a fire, authorities say. Firefighters responding to a 2:50 a.m. 911 call about a smoke odor near 64th Avenue and Lee Street searched the neighborhood until they saw fire and smoke coming from a window, said Michelle Cherniske, spokeswoman for the Arvada Fire Protection District.
