Montana's Blackfeet tribe, Zinke put water deal into effect

Leaders of the Blackfeet Nation and U.S. Interior Department on Tuesday put into effect a $471 million settlement of water rights claims that was decades in the making for the northwestern Montana American Indian tribe. Tribal Chairman Harry Barnes and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke signed documents in Washington, D.C., that set the stage for the government to begin paying for drinking water and irrigation projects envisioned in the agreement.

Montana ARES Group Activated in Advance of Anticipated Flooding

The Billings, Montana, Director of Emergency Services has activated the Yellowstone County Amateur Radio Emergency ServiceA group to support radio communication for sand bagging stations and for possible river-level spotters over the next 5 days. The call came in advance of an anticipated significant flood event - "possibly the largest ever recorded," Yellowstone County ARES Emergency Coordinator Ron Glass, WN7Y, told ARRL.

Yellowstone River forecast to hit record flood levels

Local authorities have declared a flooding emergency in southeastern Montana as snowmelt and rain threaten to push the Yellowstone River and some of its tributaries to record high levels by early next week.
