Five Grainger County properties on ETPA's "2018 East Tennessee Endangered 8"

A crowd gathered at the Henderson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Rutledge, Thursday, May 17 as Todd Morgan of the East Tennessee Preservation Alliance unveiled its "2018 East Tennessee Endangered 8." The church was constructed in 1890 from the logs of Grainger County's first courthouse. It is the oldest African American church building in the county.

TBI: Trooper Shoots Suspect On I-81

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting of a Kingsport man early Friday morning on Interstate 81 in Greene County by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper. A TBI news release states that early Friday, the trooper saw a white pickup truck parked along the ramp leading to the state weigh station at mile marker 21 along southbound I-81.

Earthquake Had Epicenter Near Morristown

A small earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 occurred about 5:32 p.m. Sunday near Morristown, according to the National Earthquake Center. A report about the quake indicated that it was centered about 7 miles east of Rutledge and 8 miles northwest of Morristown at a depth of 13.2 miles.
