Located about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City, Layton's population was only about 600 in 1940. It was then that the Hill Air Force Base arrived, followed by World War II. War workers started populating the area and the 1950 census counted 3,456 people. Layton altered from a farming town to a city with a large residential base.
