Teen who started Columbia River Gorge fire last summer ordered to pay $37 million in restitution

A Vancouver, Washington teenager who admitted to throwing fireworks in Eagle Creek Canyon last summer, causing a major wildfire in the Columbia River Gorge, has been ordered to pay nearly $37 million in restitution. It's unlikely the boy, whose identity has not been released by authorities, will ever cover the entire $37 million to cover costs of firefighting, repair and restoration to the gorge and damage to homes, but he will at least have to pay for the next decade.

Spring chinook counts in the Snake and Columbia rivers are improving after a late start to this year's run, but fishery managers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington are still unsure how strong the final run will be. Flows on the lower Columbia River have surged in recent weeks and may be the reason for a dip in the number of chinook passing Bonneville Dam last week and this week, The Lewiston Tribune reported .

Nez Perce deputies recover body from Snake River

Deputies from the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office in Lewiston confirm that they have recovered a man's body from the Snake River. On 05/06/2018 at approximately 1500 hours, the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office was informed of a deceased male in his early to mid 50's floating in the Snake River just south of the Southway Bridge on the Idaho side.
