Nampa's name translates from Shoshone to either moccasin or footprint. Colonel William H. Dewey built the elegant Dewey Palace Hotel in 1902 for $250,000. The hotel survived the great fire of 1909, but was demolished in 1963 because there was no interest in investing to renovate the grand structure.
