On May 15, Judge Ricardo Martinez of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington at Seattle ruled in favor of Daniel Ramirez Medina, a Deferred Action for Child Arrivals recipient who had been detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement due to a tattoo that ICE claimed showed Ramirez's gang affiliations. As a DACA recipient, Ramirez was in the country legally.

Troopers find 3 pounds of marijuana, loaded gun in Sandusky Co. traffic stop

Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers found three pounds of marijuana and a hi-point 9 millimeter loaded gun in a car they pulled over for speeding on June 13. The driver, Darius R. Badley, 21, of Euclid, and passengers, David J. Bynum, 26, of Tacoma, Washington, and Marcus E. White, 29, of Lacey, Washington, were charged with possession and trafficking in marijuana, both third-degree felonies.

Report: House lawmaker sent inappropriate text messages

An outside investigation has found that Rep. David Sawyer sent a House employee multiple "inappropriate and offensive" text messages over a period of three months, according to the executive summary of a report released Monday. The summary, written by Elizabeth Van Moppes of Beresford Booth law firm, also says that he made comments and jokes about another House employee's sexual orientation, and used employees' time to discuss a newspaper's investigation into sexual harassment allegations against him.

Judge orders Washington prison to provide Ramadan meals

A federal judge has ordered the Washington Department of Corrections to provide nighttime meals to Muslim inmates who have been fasting during the month of Ramadan, after several said prison officials refused to do so. The Council on American-Islamic Relations sued the department Sunday on behalf of four prisoners at the Washington State Reformatory in Monroe, including one who said he's lost 15 pounds since Ramadan began in mid-May. U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton in Tacoma issued his order just hours later.
